Abstract in different language: The aim of this article is to compare the relevant political parties in the Basque party system through ideological dimensions created by Arend Lijphart in the end of the 1970s. Lijphart argues that seven ideological dimensions can be found in Western democracies, in which political parties (but not necessarily all of them) clash with one another. I work with his theoretical framework forty years later, because I believe that it is a still very useful tool to compare the ideology of political parties. I assume that – if we want to examine the ideology of parties – we must do it in the most complex manner, and this is the reason I work with Lijphart’s approach. It is clear that not all ideological dimensions have the same importance in all democracies, but I am confident that we would work with each one that is mentioned in political and/or election programs of the parties. This will help us gain a much more detailed reflection of the parties’ ideology (in the example of Basque political parties).
