Abstract in different language: Introduction of women into the academic and scientific world met with prejudices and misunderstanding of the major part of the society in the past. This trend was yet more evident in medicine than in other fields. It was most difficult to acquire university education in medicine and find full employment in the given field studied. After World War II the conditions considerably changed and the possibilities of employment for women-physicians also improved. In 1945 the Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň was established and the number of women in the pedagogic and academic staff gradually began to increase. At the beginning, their domain were exclusively theoretical disciplines, however later on women also started to work in practical disciplines. The Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Plzeň has been attended by a great number of significant women pedagogues and scientists. They held prominent positions in the fields of their competency, but they also asserted themselves from the viewpoint of the faculty or university as whole.
