Abstract in different language: Static Var Compensators (SVC) are related to improve quality of electrical energy in power grids. There are described two topologies of the static var compensator in the paper. First of them is a star/Y-connected topology and the second one is a delta/D-connected topology. Both are composed of Hbridge converters as power sources because their possible enhancement for higher powers and particularly voltage levels. A new control strategy of the SVC based on finite control set model predictive control is also proposed. The control strategy is supported by PQ theory to determine the reference values of compensating currents. Mathematical models of both topologies are also derived. The proposed control strategy is verified by simulations of both SVC topologies.
