Abstract in different language: Bearing in mind common ground between Qur’anic denotations of injustice and polytheism, Qur’an explicitely claims polytheism to be “a grave injustice” (31:13). This article elaborates how and why could a religious doctrine be reflected in ethical cathegories in traditional Sunni scholarship. It consists of analysis of intertextual relations of afforementioned verse in further Qur’anic texts. Then it moves further to explanations of this phenomena via traditions of Hadith literature and finally towards commentaries of scholarly authorities both classical and modern, jurists and theologians, salafi literalists and sufi mystics. All of them put forward various objections about unethical aspects of polytheism, atheism, and agnosticism. The main aim here is to respond the question on what is wrong about polytheism and in which sense it violates the commonly accepted ethical golden rule about dealing towards the other side like we wanted to be dealt with.
