dc.description.abstract-translatedThe article describes the only historical cause of economic development that is people’s desire for a better life, for a greater utility. Macroeconomic changes were still happening in the history and impacted on the manufacturers as a result of this natural human characteristic. This is shown in both the excursion into the economic history and into the history of economic thought. The second part of the article is based primarily on the work by Robert B. Reich and describes the gradual transformation of the economy and business in the last third of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century. Standardized mass production is transformed into a specialized production and symbolic and analytical services are playing an increasingly important role in it. Traditional manufacturing services are moving to developing countries and personal services sector faces the excess of employees. In this new economy can succeed only companies that are able to hire a “symbolic analysts” - innovators. Competition is constantly stepped up by consumer’s desire for new and better products and those consumers are to come under more pressure when they are in the role of employees. From this longcreeping process point of view the current world economic crisis appears to be only a petty affair, with all its negative impacts on the whole economy and individual businesses also. Currently we live in a period of a correction of the bad structure of economy that doesn’t meet people’s preferences. This fully corresponds to the long run trend of the rising economic interdependence and benefits resulting from it.en
