Abstract in different language: This study discusses divination in Assyria, which was a highly important and respected discipline. Divination was done using the intestines of a sheep, by celestial signs or by a person’s appearance and behavior. In each chapter, the reader is acquainted with the appearance and conduction of divination rituals. Attention is also paid to the collections of omens, which formed the basis for assisting in the interpretation of the given signs. Then, a brief outline is provided of the political and social importance of diviners, i. e. their support by the king and respectability among the people. The last section of the study provides information about the preserved evidence of a special group of experts – prophets.
