Abstrakt v dalším jazyce:	Η παρούσα ερεύνα ασχολείται με τα κίνητρα συμμετοχής των ενηλίκων στην εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευση και εξειδικεύει σε μια πληθυσμιακή ομάδα, αυτή των Γεωτεχνικών. Για την καλύτερη κατανόηση του θέματος, κρίνουμε απαραίτητη μια εισαγωγή στην έννοια του κινήτρου και μια βιβλιογραφική ανασκόπηση προκειμένου να παρουσιαστούν βασικές θεωρίες κινήτρων που έχουν εφαρμοστεί κατά καιρούς στον τομέα της εκπαίδευσης. Η μελέτη βασίστηκε στην ποσοτική μέθοδο, καθώς το δείγμα της έρευνας έπρεπε να απαντήσει σε ένα ερωτηματολόγιο προκειμένου να παράσχει τα απαραίτητα δεδομένα. Η έρευνά μας διεξήχθη μεταξύ Φεβρουαρίου και Μαρτίου 2019, συμπεριλαμβανομένων 85 εκπαιδευομένων ενήλικων που προέρχονται από τον γεωτεχνικό τομέα (δείγμα). Παρουσιάζουμε επίσης μια εκτενή παρουσίαση της μεθόδου που χρησιμοποιείται για την επεξεργασία των δεδομένων και την ανάλυση των αποτελεσμάτων. Τα αποτελέσματα αυτής της έρευνας έδειξαν ότι τα κίνητρα συμμετοχής που σχετίζονται με το “ενδιαφέρον για την γνώση” θεωρούνται πιο σημαντικά, με αυτά της “επαγγελματικής αναβάθμισης” να ακολουθούν. Επίσης, είναι σημαντική η διερεύνηση νέων εκπαιδευτικών οριζόντων καθώς και η πεποίθηση ότι η εκπαίδευση και η κατάρτιση πρέπει να ακολουθείται δια βίου. Τα κύρια συμπεράσματα της έρευνας μας μπορούν να συσχετιστούν με τη βιβλιογραφία και τα συμπεράσματα άλλων ερευνητικών προσεγγίσεων. In a volatile global work environment with constant changes like population movement and drastically increasing qualification prerequisites, it is a matter of urgency to investigate the motives that lead more and more scientists to participate in continuous educational and training practices, taking place in great extend in the form of distance learning. This study explores the motivation of adults participating in distance learning and more specifically those that have a university background in Geotechnical Sciences. Initially, an introduction to both the concepts of distance education and adult education is made, in order to present the scope of the study. Furthermore, a literature review concerning the terms “motivation” and “goal orientation” and their respectful meaning is performed. Additionally, a reference is made to the longstanding motivation theories. The second part of the study consists of a research involving a questionnaire that was provided to all participants, and an analysis of the gathered data, based on the quantitative analytical method. This particular research was carried out between February and March 2019 and the sample involved 85 adult trainees with background in Geotechnical Science. In this study, special attention was given to the presentation of the approach, the questions, the tool and the method used while conducting the research. To summarize, the results are compared to similar literature and the outcome of other related research studies. In conclusion, this study has shown that the motives for engagement in distance learning programs are in descending order of importance: general interest in attaining further education, professional progress, the exploration of newfound knowledge and horizons, and the belief that education and training should be lifelong. On the contrary, escape from personal or family problems and social interactions seem to be the least important factor.
