Abstract in different language:	The aim of this article is to present a wide range of text grammars in modern French grammar books. Text grammars are expected to provide a more adequate framework for the description of many problematic phenomena dealt with in modern linguistics. A text that lacks coherent sentence sequences cannot be regarded as a text. Thus, a sentence sequence is perceived as text when grammatical (verbal forms, conjunctions, adverbs, etc.), thematic and functional coherence can be detected. The analysis of five French grammar books shows that the best French grammar book is Grammaire méthodique du français written by Martin Riegel, Jean-Christophe Pellat, and René Rioul. This book goes beyond the scope of traditional grammars to include “grammar and communication”. It includes clear and concise descriptions of all the main grammatical phenomena of French occurring in the text, illustrated by numerous examples taken from contemporary French. This new edition, published in 2009, includes 47 pages of text grammars.
