Abstract in different language: | In this article, we deal with the topic of attitudes towards the Roma minority expressed by primary and secondary school teachers. We present the findings of our research carried out in 2014–2015. First, we introduce the basic theoretical concepts be- hind the term “multiculturalism” as well as the broad term “Roma identity”. We then describe our method- ology and research techniques. In the central part of our paper, we focus our interpretation on the specific ways teachers perceive the Roma minority, such as the ascription of characteristics or traits. Their perception is usually influenced by personal experience with Roma students. We presume that the teachers’ attitudes can influence the attitudes of their students. We will also show that their negative approach towards the Roma can be transferred onto the students in the form of misrepresentations and stereotyping. |
