Abstract in different language: | In my diploma work concerning the Powers of the President of the Czech Republic I firstly explained the concept of the President of the Republic. The next part was devoted to the history of the Czechoslovak constitutions, I analyzed the requirements for the presidential candidates and the powers given to the president by specific constitutions. The most significant changes came from the 1960 Constitution, followed by a direct presidential election in 2012. In the next part of my work I focused on the current position of the President of the Czech Republic and the influence of direct election on his powers. The direct election brought several changes in constitutional laws, but it had no major influence on the president's position and powers. The president is not responsible for his office, he can only be prosecuted for treason; the only punishment may be the loss of the office and the impossibility of regaining it. In the last chapters, I have dealt with the issue of the countersigned and uncontested powers of the president. I interspersed this analysis with the best-known cases or events that concerned the given powers. At the end of my work I evaluated my own questionnaire examining the public view on the powers of the President of the Czech Republic. The questionnaire emerged that the Czech nation think that the direct presidential election does not affect its position and powers. Furthermore, the respondents would like to take away the president's powers enabling the interference with judicial power. |
