Aim of this study is to explore exploitation of coal in area of Břaska pánev using nondestructive archaeological methods and historical studies. Further there is shown a history and evolution of mining in Czech lands since Industrial Revolution to postwar age.

The work summarizes information about the sunken features at the settlements of Roman period in Bohemia. Alongside is observed a frequency of each object and aboveground structures at the settlements. The main attention is paid to sunken-floored huts and their interpretation.
